INTERVIEW v.8 - Charity Committee Chair: DanielA Fanelli (Italy)

What position do you currently hold on the IWC Executive Committee (EC)?Daniela: I am the Charity Committee Chair, which means I get to organize a monthly meeting for the lovely group of ladies who make up the Charity Committee.

Walk us through a typical week in your position at IWC EC Headquarters?
Sure! On a non-meeting week, you’ll usually find me crafting email updates for committee members regarding the previous and upcoming meeting, brainstorming interesting ideas to include in the next meeting agenda and reminding committee members to ask their charity representatives for more requests. On a meeting week, I’m usually busy locking down 2 food volunteers for yummy meeting snacks and forwarding the requests I receive to Cristina, the IWC secretary.

What big thing are you currently working on?
Currently, the main goal is to increase the amount of requests coming in. In our last meeting, we did some brainstorming and came up with a number of different tactics so I am confident we will achieve our goal!

Why Is this position available?
I am currently looking for work abroad so I am not sure how much longer I will be here for.

What will be the biggest challenge for the person(s) filling this position?
Probably getting into to flow of the position, as there are quite a few moving parts to be mindful of. But once you get through that first step - with support from the charity committee members and I - it will be easy sailing from there.

Tell us exactly what would be expected for someone who would like to take on this position?
If you’re looking to practice your leadership skills in a friendly, encouraging environment, this is definitely the right place. You must have a good command of English, enjoy mediating group conversation, as well as knowing when to delegate tasks vs taking on responsibilities. Also, if you have a knack for organization and email writing, you will do great in this position!

What would other EC members say is the best part about working on the EC team?
The informal, fun atmosphere during EC meetings and seeing the results of the joint efforts.
