History

The St Petersburg International Women's Club (IWC) was founded in 1986 and is a club for women holding international passports plus a limited percentage of women holding only a Russian passport who understand, read and speak English.

The Club's activities focus on both the expatriate spouse (who is not the working partner in their household), as well as professional women. The IWC is first and foremost a social club. IWC activities offer support in the form of an international network of women who find themselves living in St Petersburg sharing similar challenges as well as opportunities.

We also take the opportunity to reach out to the St Petersburg community by organising regular activities for the sole purpose of raising funds for citywide charity efforts.

Membership

IWC members pay annual membership fees and the amount is determined by the elected executive committee of the Club. Membership is valid from September following year with memberships being renewed between May and September. Should a potential member arrive in St Petersburg mid year (January to September), the required membership fee is at a reduced rate. Guests (prospective members) are welcome to attend IWC monthly general meetings paying the necessary guest fee.

Annual Membership Fees: 3000 roubles. January to 31 August is 2000 (
Club's year end luncheon cost is inclusive). Guest Fees: 200 roubles for an IWC General Meeting. A (one) guest fee receipt is valid for a 200 roubles discount towards the full membership due. You are staying only for a few months? Please contact a member of the committee, we will find a solution.

Want to Join?
So, if you want to join the IWC, contact us (or contact an existing member) thanks to an email via "Contact Us". We will make arrangements to accompany you to a monthly meeting or perhaps a Peter’s Tea and if you bring along the completed membership form (attached and can be filled in on the computer) and your membership fees, we can arrange for your membership to begin immediately.

Meetings

General meetings are organized once a month typically on the last Tuesday of each month and are generally held in the morning hours, approximately 10:30 – 12:30. Meeting locations vary due to the arranged venues. Attempts are made to keep the meeting locations as central as possible for ease of transport. The agenda for monthly general meetings offers a refreshment/social time for those attending, updates on Club activities and the Club needs, as well as arranged special presentations focused on member interests.

Sharing Information

As a means of sharing information, the IWC produces a TIPS book and you can purchase a copy of this on becoming a member. There is also a weekly bulletin sent via email which informs members about the next weeks activities in the club and events in the city and gives everyone a chance to pass on hints and tips about living in St Petersburg.

Activities and Interest Groups

The Club has many activity and interest groups including photo club, Baby and Toddler group, Ballet, Dining Out, Hermitage Interest Group, Local and Architectural Tours, Pilates, Walking, Dance/Aerobics. Another popular event is the weekly Peter’s Tea. This is a weekly tea aimed at meeting and introducing new members as well as giving existing members the chance to catch up with old friends. The 100 roubles fee for members and 150 roubles for guests paid at the Peter’s Tea is another big charity fundraiser for the IWC.
